Worked on the issue of final geological disposal of High level Radioactive Waste especially in Japan.
The resultant high-level radioactive liquid waste after reprocessing process, which is mixed with glass material and melted at high temperature, finally is to be buried under 300M at least. The Japanese government is offering the municipalities that want to invite the sight. However, it is not decided yet as of 2011.
On the other hand, geological disposal technologies and research have been developed. The government tries hard to persuade the citizens, but it gets into difficulties.
35 years have passed since research and development on geological disposal technologies started in Japan, 1976―. Why the sight has not been decided yet? Why are the scientists confident? I have approached the actual work. There are a lot of the uncertain issues such as safety standards, management system, and management system.
Can the technologies persuade the citizens? Will the government take the initiative in solving these issues? The challenge to the unknown field goes on.

"Hunger","Poverty","Civil war", there is always a tag on our images of Africa but there are some African countries which overcome those situations.
On July 9th, 2011, after many decades of civil war, the southern part of the biggest African country, Sudan, achieved independent. It’s a great honor that I will be able to cover the new side of Africa and the emotions of Sudanese people who have struggled for 21 years.

In February and March of 2011, I went scuba diving in the ocean of Henoko in Nago City, Okinawa. This ocean is now set to be a new construction site for the relocation of the US Futenma military base camp. Despite its fate and reality, the ocean has been fluorishing the most amazingly beautiful nature. The base camp construction has developed into the political issue considering the national security and diplomacy. Yet, it is a critical matter for the lives of the people who reside there. The problems of "basecamp and life" have clearly emerged for the residents who are forced to live under a severe environment in which their views are cut off by barbed wires and the tremendous noises are constantly being made from the combat aircrafts and helicopters flying back and forth.
As a consequence of the March 11th earthquake, the huge tsunami attacked the vast shorelines of Kanto and Touhouku areas in Japan. The massive amounts of radioactive substances have been scattering into the atmosphere and the sea from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The accident publicly revealed the fact that our shining life was always on the scale with the risk of radioactive contamination.
Visiting the front lines of the base camp relocation and the nuclear problem, the good old question of "What is the true wealth and fulfillment?" strikes our hearts as a most significant challenge.

Namie town is regarded as the designated evacuation zone. Located at the 20-30 km radius from the nuclear power plant, the town’s radiation levels are high. 9 dairy farm families still chose to remain in the area in order to take care for their cattles. Since the sales and shipments for their milk is restricted, the pumped milk is being thrown away. The people have been told to evacuate, but the future compensation has not been guaranteed. The farmers told me that they cannot leave their cattles who supported their lives up until today.

Mr. and Ms. Ishii. They lost their son 3 years ago in an accident. Along with the decreasing number of the workers, they decreased the number of the cattles. Yet, now they sold the all cattles and evacuated in their daughter’s house.

I spent two weeks in eastern Libya to cover the revolutionary movement against Col. Muammar Gaddafi. Heavy battles have been going on between the government troops and the anti-Gaddafi militia near Ras Lanuf which is located about 500 km east of the capital city, Tripoli. It was some of the heaviest fighting I have experienced. I left Libya because the situation was gridlocked and I injured my leg, as well as breaking a lens. I would like to return to the country when there is another major development.
